In accordance with two of our naturopathic principles, Docere (Doctor as Teacher) and Treat the Whole Person, we find the basis and importance of Lifestyle Counselling. As Naturopathic Physicians, we view a person's health as the summation of a person's physical, mental, and emotional state, and their genetic, nutritional and environmental influences. In other words, we believe that our health is affected by many influences. By addressing lifestyle, we can encourage optimal health and the success of your individualized treatment.
Some examples of lifestyle factors that we may investigate are:
- Current diet and how positive dietary changes can be most easily incorporated
- Physical Activity and Exercise levels
- Sleep Patterns
- Energy Levels
- Effects of individual stress
- Awareness of behaviours, routines and habits that work best for your health
- Working to gain more esteem and how we can best make you feel empowered and motivated to make positive changes
Some methods or tools we may use are:
- Keeping a Diet Diary
- Keeping a journal
- Goal setting
- Stress reduction practices
- Relaxation & Breathing techniques
- Recommended readings and books
- Power of intention & visualization
