Naturopathic Philosophy

Our Naturopathic Physicians, Dr. Nicole Shortt, ND and Dr. Krista Ingram, ND, honour the principles of naturopathic medicine.

Dr. Nicole Shortt, Naturopathic Physician
Dr. Nicole Shortt - ND

Dr Nicole Shortt is a Naturopathic Physician with 7 years of experience and is passionate about naturopathic medicine and the choices it gives people in health care. Dr. Shortt completed her naturopathic medical training in 2003 at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario in their four year post graduate program. Prior to that, she graduated from the University of Victoria in 1997 with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry, and subsequently worked in the field of molecular biology before returning to school to complete her medical training. She is focused in her work and in her life on natural medicine and its ability to keep her patients and her family healthy and happy.

Dr. Shortt has a general family practice and therefore treats most conditions that people may approach their family medical doctor about. She does have a special interest in the health of women and children and has focused a considerable amount of additional training in these areas. Dr. Shortt is also trained as a Doula, a Bowen Therapist, and she is certified by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia to perform acupuncture and injection therapies. She is a member of Vernon Women in Business and the mother of two amazing little boys, Liam and Joseph.

Dr. Shortt is board certified with the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC and is a member of the British Columbia Naturopathic Association and Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.

 
Dr. Krista Ingram, Naturopathic Physician

Krista-bgKrista Ingram graduated from the University of Victoria, Victoria, B.C. in 1996 with a BSc in Biology. She graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario in 2006. Dr. Ingram has a general family practice, using homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, herbal medicine, clinical nutrition and lifestyle counselling to address her clients concerns.  She emphasizes classical homeopathy in her practice, having completed an extra three years of advanced study in classical prescribing and theory (www.homeopathybythebook.com).  She has a special interest in mind-body medicine and is certified in foot reflexology.

Dr. Ingram lives in Vernon with her husband Ed, and her dog Shadow. She is a Vernon Woman in Business member, and she has served on the VWIB Woman of the Year committee for three years. She also gives volunteer advice twice per month at Nature's Fare in Vernon.

Dr. Ingram is registered with the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, the British Columbia Naturopathic Association, and the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia.

 
Lana Henry, Registered Massage Therapist

Lana Henry graduated from Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy with a 3 year Massage Therapy Diploma. She was registered in the province of British Columbia and has been practicing under the Health Professionals Act since 2003. Lana's life long passion for massage therapy began at an early age when she was diagnosed and treated for scoliosis, curvature of the spine. Massage Therapy benefited Lana in many ways, it brought relief for muscle spasms and postural imbalances and taught her about body and postural awareness through her adolescent years. The experience of receiving and benefiting from massage lead Lana to her choice of profession, to help others improve their quality of life and educate them in better body and health choices.

Lana has furthered her studies in core stabilization, osteopathy, craniosacral therapy, muscle energy techniques and myofascial release techniques. She has ambitions to continue her learning in alternative therapies to broaden her approach of treatment with her clients. She strives for an active lifestyle and enjoys the healing space the great outdoors has to offer. Lana is warm, encouraging and tactful. Her goal is to facilitate and empower her clients to have an active role in their health and improve their quality of life.

 
Sarah Robson, Registered Massage Therapist

sarah-bgSarah Robson has been practicing massage therapy for 10 years since graduating from the 3000 hour, 3-year program of the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, Vernon, BC (OVCMT) in 2000. Prior to going to massage therapy school she graduated with an Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph. Sarah has taken additional training in Myofascial Therapy, Neurostructural Integration, Hot Stone Massage, and her level 1 Reiki. Along with working as a Registered Massage Therapist, Sarah has been teaching at OVCMT for 9 years. Her primary roles have been teaching Musculoskeletal Anatomy and Integrated Sciences; however, she has also supervised sports massage and hydrotherapy clinics, and has been an examiner for practical exams.

Sarah's goal as a massage therapist is to help clients achieve pain relief, reduce tissue restrictions, improve joint mobility and thus restore quality of living. Through a combination of massage therapy and education on homecare such as stretching and strengthening exercises, hydrotherapy, and ergonomic changes at work or home, she can treat many conditions and provide activity or work related modification advice. These homecare tools will address the nature of postural imbalances and activity and work related strains from faulty biomechanics.

Sarah is an active person who participates in many sports and has a lot of personal experience in sports related treatments and injuries. She has worked with many athletes involved in activities such as Ironman and short course triathlons, mountain biking, BMX racing, hockey, soccer, volleyball, and basketball. She has massaged during weeklong cycling tours (Tour BC) and for a BC Bike Race team.

Sarah is passionate about helping others and is always eager to learn new ways to address her client's needs. Her goal is to help others feel and perform at their best.

 
Andrea Jones, Registered Massage Therapist

Andrea Jones - RMTAndrea Jones graduated in 2008 from the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy with her 3 year program diploma. She is inspired by the approach massage therapy offers to whole body healing, with its focus on both maintenance and prevention. Integrated into her treatments is her knowledge of: swedish massage, myofascial release and therapeutic trigger point release.

With a Bachelor's degree major in Sociology and her massage therapy education, Andrea also holds a keen interest in massage and body work research. She is excited to continue with integrating new research into her career whenever possible. Andrea believes that everyone holds the innate ability to heal and live a healthy life, and working with an individual and their own specific set of needs is key to achieving this. Andrea has a strong affinity for massage therapy, and other therapies including Reiki that have a non-evasive approach to healing.

Holding to these beliefs, Andrea really enjoys working with her clients one-on-one to restore the balance they seek in their bodies.

 
Morene Philpott, Energy Therapist
Morene Philpott Energy Therapist

Morene Philpott is a healing arts energy therapist with a natural ability to guide and support the people she works with. She has been using integrative body work and her inner guidance for over 20 years which gives her clients the ability to heal, transform and create new possibilities in their life.

She has a sincere passion for what she does and it shows in her professionalism, kindness and overall positive disposition.

Before she moved to Vernon BC, she owned a holistic health business in Fort McMurray, Alberta and worked with young offenders and troubled youth. She was formally trained as a massage therapist, working with a team of Chiropractors and Doctors as she enhanced her knowledge and self growth; learning many modalities throughout the years.

Her inner joy and passion comes out throughout her treatments and spills out to her clients; making her clients feel safe and supported throughout their transitions to a state of inner acceptance and peace. Her sessions utilize a unique and effective blend of the power of Matrix Energetics, Cranio-Sacral, Core Zero Balancing, Reiki, Energy Mirrors and a process called Somato-Emotional Release. Yvonne Smith, Office Manager

Yvonne SmithYvonne has worked in the medical field for the past seventeen years providing administrative support and assistance to a variety of practitioners in the Okanagan including: Physiotherapists, R.M.T.'s, TCM Acupuncturists, Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, Pedorthists, and Naturopathic Doctors.

Her current position at Balance Natural Health Clinic has allowed her to be a proud part of a dynamic team of women making a positive difference in people's lives. She finds it extremely rewarding to be able to facilitate this process. Yvonne has always enjoyed all the great wonders of the Okanagan valley, with an awesome group of friends, family and co-workers.
